I started my application around September 2021 but I couldn’t complete it until February 2022 because I was unable to get my international passport on time which I needed for my English proficiency exam (the only document needed to be upload then) whose result was waived by my department since I attended a University (undergraduate) where we were taught with English. My admission came in March 2022, followed by full funding.
My first step was that I sent an email to a professor, who I got to know needs a student to help with his research. He asked for my documents, I sent them, and later asked for recommendation letters, which my amiable lecturers provided.
Although he didn’t mention I will be his student, he encouraged me to apply to the department and wished me good luck (I was admitted as a TA and not an RA).
I had no publications, no masters but I decided to apply for a PhD program (I needed to be sure of funding; some Masters programs are funded but you needed to be sure by contacting the department chair or graduate coordinator before you apply).
For my application, the documents I provided are:
- Unofficial undergraduate transcript (official transcript was sent after my admission)
- Statement of Purpose/Motivation Letter (review and review before submitting)
- Recommendation Letters (these should definitely be from lecturers you’re close to)
- CV
- English Proficiency result (Duolingo)
Other schools/departments require some other standardized exam scores, financial affidavits if not funded, and others. All these documents can be found on the program’s page (on the school’s page).
